Lorna Phillips has a bachelors degree in law and a masters degree in international development law from Birmingham and Warwick Universities respectively. After completing professional examinations leading to becoming a Solicitor she practiced at a leading provincial corporate/commercial firm in England . Upon migrating to Jamaica she continued her practice in corporate and commercial law, advising business clients in commercial property, company law, and commercial law, in a co-operative association with Ernst & Young
( Jamaica ). She was admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 1993 and called to the Jamaican Bar as an Attorney-at-law in 1995.
Ms. Phillips heads the Commercial Department of Nicholson Phillips which is involved in advising on a variety of commercial matters. She particularly enjoys advising in the area of business start-ups and expansion schemes and currently specializes in investment and business transactions and all aspects of commercial land matters, advising property developers and investors in land acquisitions, planning, construction and disposal matters and also financial institutions in lending and security arrangements. She is a qualified solicitor, mediator and recent past lecturer at the University of the West Indies .She is the chairman of the Real Estate Reform Consortium Limited (a non-profit multi-disciplinary organization formed to lobby for changes in the real estate industry) , and a member of the Jamaican Bar Association and the Law Society of England and Wales.
